Welcome to Apple Class
It has been lovely welcoming the children back into school. Mrs Ross, Mrs Aspinall and Miss Fuller have all be very impressed with the children's enthusiasm.
We have lots of exciting things planned for the year. Please find information below for term 1.
We will be looking at the book ‘The Secret Sky Garden’ by Linda Sarah and Fiona Lumbers to teach character development, familiar settings and how illustrations enrich the meaning of a text. We will continue to work on grammatical construction of different sentence types, past and present tense and the correct use of nouns and similes. Accelerated reader continues for those who access the programme in Cherry Class. We aim to hear your child read regularly and would be grateful if you could also try and read with your child for at least 10 minutes per day.
We are continuing to use the White Rose scheme and this term our focus will be multiplication and division and fractions for Year 1. Children in year 2 will focus on length and height and position and direction. After half-term, we will be looking at position and direction and place value within 100 for the children Year 1. The children in year 2 will be learning all about time.
We will be learning about Kings and Queens History and after half-term, we will look at 1066. In Science, we are looking at stories about scientists followed by animals and their needs, including the human body. We will be looking at Design Technology in Art, followed by a study of collage. In Computing, we will be looking at digital writing and during our Music sessions we will be looking at melody, percussion and pitch.
Other Useful Information
Forest school will run on Wednesday afternoons. It is essential that your child has their full kit in school as they will be unable to take part without it. At this time of year please ensure your child has warm and waterproof clothing for our Forest School sessions as we go outside whatever the weather!
PE will take place on Friday afternoons and all children must have their kit in school at all times.
Please support your child with their TT Rockstars and reading at home. We can not stress enough how important reading is to the development of your child. An adult must sign the reading log to confirm your child has read, we would suggest 20 minutes each day.
