Welcome to Apple Class
Welcome to term 3!
It has been wonderful welcoming the children back after the Christmas holidays. They have all been very excited to see their friends and to continue with their learning.
We will be continuing with the book 'Pugs of the Frozen North', for the first part of the term. For the second part of the term, we will be looking at the book, 'How the Stars Came To Be'. We will be looking at establishing and developing insights into the culture and history of origin stories, exploring character viewpoints and motivations through role-play and stories and develop a personal and distinctive voice to support storytelling and writing.
As we continue to work through the Whiterose scheme, we will now be looking at multiplication and division. TTRockstars will be used to support this in school, and we encourage the children to continue logging at home.
In History, we will be learning about the Anglo-Saxons and linking our knowledge to Art. In Science, we will look at rocks and volcanos - a subject I know the children will have lots of fun with!
In RE we will be looking at the Holy Trinity and in PSHE we will be discussing our dreams and goals. For PE this term the children will be participating in gymnastics, we are very fortunate to have a specialist instructor coming into the school to share her knowledge and expertise.
Forest School - will be held weekly for every child in Apple Class on a Wednesday.
PE - Monday afternoon.
Please make sure that your child has the correct clothing in school - It is very wet and muddy outside at the moment!
Homework - Homework is given to the children on a Monday and needs to be completed by Friday. Please note that this is in addition to reading.
We look forward to watching the children flourish this term.
Thank you for your continued support.

Welcome to term 2!
We are very fortunate to have Mr Gardener for term 2 and 3. Mr Gardener is completing his teacher training with us and I have been so impressed with the welcoming response that every child in the class has given him. We also have Mrs Chinnery and Miss Fuller supporting the children in class. We have all been incredibly impressed at how well the children have all settled back into school and look forward to a term filled with fun and exciting learning opportunities.
Trips - We will be visiting Canterbury Cathedral on Friday 12th November.
We will be looking at the book ‘Leon and the Place between’ by Angela Mcallister. Children in year 3 will take part in the ‘Creative Steps’ Project in collaboration with two other local primary schools, developing their vocabulary and knowledge of the book through drama. Year 2 children will also take part in the drama activities in school as part of our normal lessons. We will be continuing to work on correct grammatical construction of different sentence types, subordinate and co-ordinating clauses.
We are continuing to use the White Rose scheme and this term our focus will be on addition and subtract. Children in year 3 will add and subtract multiples of 100. This will include crossing 3 digit and 2-digit numbers. Children in year 2 will look at number bonds to 100, 10 more and 10 less, adding 2 digit and 1-digit numbers. They will also look at subtracting a 1-digit number from a 2-digit number.
We will be learning about local knowledge in Geography and in Science we are looking at diet and exersise. We will be linking our science with design technology this term and cooking some delicious food (more details to follow!). In Computing, we will be learning about photography and other ICT equipment. During our Music sessions we will continue to play the recorders. French this term will look at the parts of the body and in RE we will be studying Sikhism.
Forest school will run on Tuesday afternoons. The sessions will alternate each week between the different year groups. It is essential that your child has their full kit in school as they will be unable to take part without it. At this time of year please ensure your child has waterproof clothing for our Forest School sessions as we go outside whatever the weather!
PE will take place on Monday afternoons and all children must have their kit in school at all times. Littlestone Golf Course will be working with the children this term, teaching them key golfing skills.
We have now started our homework in Apple Class, please support your child with this and continue reading at home (especially on a Wednesday night for Busters!). We cannot stress enough how important reading is to the development of your child. An adult must sign the reading log to confirm your child has read - we would suggest 20 minutes each day.
Please also remember a water bottle and suitable outdoor clothing.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.

It has been lovely welcoming the children back into school. Mrs Ross, Mrs Aspinall and Miss Fuller have all be very impressed with the children's enthusiasm.
We have lots of exciting things planned for the year. Please find information below for term 1.
We will be looking at the book ‘The Secret Sky Garden’ by Linda Sarah and Fiona Lumbers to teach character development, familiar settings and how illustrations enrich the meaning of a text. We will continue to work on grammatical construction of different sentence types, past and present tense and the correct use of nouns and similes. Accelerated reader continues for those who access the programme in Cherry Class. We aim to hear your child read regularly and would be grateful if you could also try and read with your child for at least 10 minutes per day.
We are continuing to use the White Rose scheme and this term our focus will be multiplication and division and fractions for Year 1. Children in year 2 will focus on length and height and position and direction. After half-term, we will be looking at position and direction and place value within 100 for the children Year 1.
