An Introduction to Year R
Before your child starts school...
At Kingsnorth we believe in the importance of a strong and supportive transition between pre-school and a child’s first year at school.
In the June / July prior to a child starting school the Year R teachers will arrange to visit each child in their pre-school setting, this is to talk to the staff about each child, find out how they are achieving academically and socially and if there are any steps that our school need to put in place prior to your child starting. It also gives the Year R teachers a chance to see and interact with each child in a setting in which they are familiar and comfortable.
Parent Information Evening
This is normally an early evening event, held in June, providing an opportunity to find out more about the school and how things work in Year R. Parents also have the opportunity to talk to the Year R staff.
Continuing with our successful transition the Year R teachers and teaching assistants will visit each child in their home during the first two weeks of term. This gives teachers time to talk to the parents about each child and gather wide range of information; from their academic ability to whatever their favourite toys are! It also gives the children another opportunity to meet the teaching staff in a familiar setting. This is an invaluable meeting for the teaching staff and crucial to building the partnership between school and home.
