Term 5

           What’s happening this term:

Literacy - In Literacy we will be looking at letter writing inspired by Paddington as well as biographies and poetry based on our History topic, looking at Kings and Queens. As we enter our final term, we will be expecting that children in Year 1 are spelling most words phonetically as well as recognising and writing using correct spellings for HFW and CEW. In Year 2, we will be expecting to see spelling patterns, that have been taught over the course of the year, being applied.

Maths - In Year 1, we will be exploring position and direction, time, money and place value within 100 - giving your child plenty of opportunities to count and play with physical coins as well as identifying half past and o’clock at home will really support them this term. In Year 2, the children will be looking at statistics and position in addition to consolidating their learning for the whole of KS1.

RE - The theme for RE this term is Judaism. We will be exploring important stories from the Torah as well as finding out where and how Jewish people pray.

Science - For the final time this year, we will be revisiting our seasons topic to learn all about Summer and start to compare against the other seasons we have explored this year.

History - This term we will be looking at what a monarch is, their role and where they live. We will be specifically focusing on William the Conqueror and King Charles III and our learning will be enhanced by our very exciting trip to Battle Abbey.

Art - This term our topic is sculptures. We will be making clay houses, learning new skills and techniques to help us mould and carve designs.

PSHE - In PSHE we will be focusing on our transitions to year 2 and 3 in September.

Music - In Music, we will be exploring pitch as part of our musical me unit.

Computing - We will be focusing on how we can stay safe online as well as using the Ipads for digital photography and editing.

PE - PE this term will be rounders.
