Oak

Miss Down, Mrs Button and Mrs Attree welcome you to take a look at all the wonderful learning happening in Oak Class! We are excited to begin a whole new year with a fabulous new class.

Important information:

Forest School takes place every Monday, so the children will need clothes in school that can get dirty. This includes wellies for when we have particularly wet days! A reminder that children need to be wearing long sleeved items of clothing and trousers for Forest School. PE happens every Friday, so we ask that the children come into school on Friday mornings in their full PE kits.

Maths:

This term in Maths, the class will be focusing on place value and calculation. We will be recapping place value of digits and looking at numbers up to 1 million. During this time, we will also be exploring Roman numerals.

When we begin calculation, we will be practising and recapping our four operation work, particularly focusing on mental and written methods to help us quickly achieve addition and subtraction answers. It's always good practise to keep up with our times tables as well, as we will be moving onto trickier long multiplication and division later in the term.

A Collection of Printable Teaching Resources. Maths resources for schools including posters and worksheets

English:

For Writing this term, we will be writing for a variety of audiences and exploring different genres such as: a narrative, persuasive piece, poetry and non-chronological texts. We will be using a variety of grammatical features within these pieces (including introducing parenthesis and relative clauses). Our book this term is Floella Benjamin - Coming to England, and lots of our writing and reading this term will be based on this.

Science:

For our Science learning this term, we will be be looking at Living things and their habitats. We will look at how plants reproduce sexually and asexually. Additionally, we will explore life cycles of different animal groups, exploring metamorphosis for amphibians and insects.

Geography:

This term, we will be learning about the rise in the global population. We will be exploring reasons for this and what kind of factors can impact population across the world. One of our enquiries will involve us discovering the continents and countries with the highest and lowest population density and understanding why this might be.

RE:

Our Big Question this term in RE is: What does it mean if God is loving and holy?

This will be an excellent opportunity for the children to show what they already know about Christianity and the Christian views of God. We will be looking at how God is perceived and how Christians interpret God's teachings and rules.

The topic for PSHE this term is all about family and friend relationships. This will tie in nicely with our review of the school and British values throughout Term 1. We will be exploring how to resolve conflict and challenge stereotypes - skills which will hopefully be carried throughout our time in Oak Class and beyond.

Home Learning:

Seesaw is the platform we are using to engage with parents but also conduct home learning. Homework will be set every Friday and checked the following Thursday. There will be up to two tests set via Spelling Frame every week and TTRS should be accessed every week at home, as well as at school.  We will also be sending a handwriting / spelling practise sheet every Friday for your child to try at home.
