Term 5

           What’s happening this term:

Literacy - In Literacy we will be looking at writing our own narratives inspired by the Fox and the Star. We will also be looking at non-fiction reports inspired by the book, Look Up. In Year 1, we will be preparing for our Phonics screening at the start of Term 6 so please keep updated on SeeSaw with additional work to support your child at home. In Year 2, we will be focusing on spelling and independent sentence structure.

Maths - In Maths we will be continuing to explore fractions in Year 2, with an introduction to the unit in Year 1. We will then be looking at multiplication, with a focus on 2s, 5s and 10s in Year 1 and then time. Getting your child involved with telling the time at home will really support their fluency, making a point to acknowledge the time when it is half past and o’clock at home.

RE - The theme for RE this term is Judaism. We will be exploring what it means to be Jewish as well as special symbols and celebrations in Jewish Faith.

Science - Our topic this term is plants. We will be looking at where plants come from, conducting experiments to find out the best conditions for plant growth and will be finishing by growing our own tomato plants.

Geography - This term we will be exploring Shanghai and China. As part of this we will be looking at location, culture and landscapes. We will also be comparing the UK to Shanghai.

DT - This term our topic is textiles - puppets. We will be starting the term with an exciting puppet show on our WOW day and then will be making our own felt hand puppets to perform Little Red Riding Hood.

PSHE - In PSHE we will be looking at safety and our changing bodies. A letter will be sent home with specific coverage when looking at our changing bodies.

Computing - We will be focusing on how we can stay safe online as well as using the Ipads for digital photography and editing.

PE - PE this term will be cricket.
