SEND
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEN-D)
At Brenzett CE Primary School, we believe in equal opportunities for all of our pupils, regardless of additional needs or barriers. We apply our best endeavours to meet the needs of those pupils who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, defined as :
‘A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.
A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if he or she:
• has a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age
• has a disability which prevents or hinders him or her from making use of facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.' (Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years, DfE 2014)
The Local Offer
The Children and Families Act 2014 requires the Local Authority and schools to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 0-25.
The Local Authority refer to this as the ‘Local Offer’. The intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It will help parents and young people to understand the range of services and provision in the local area and contribute to a more equal partnership in planning for the needs of children with SEND.
